Information required to be shown on a label:
All textile products, whether of domestic origin or imported, whether intered to be samples or models, must have their textile composition shown in commercialization phase. You should know how to indicate correctly the textile composition of your product

SPECIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR

• fibers
• threads
• woven fabrics
• mesh fabrics
• non-woven

  Important
- You may have to pay an additional tax if you fail to indicate the textile composition of products for which that specification are required.
- Never use a tape label to indicate a garment's textile composition. You may have to pay an additional tax.
- When specifying the composition you must inform the percentage as well as the name of the fiber used. The specification should feature the name of the fiber written in full, on your local language. Commercial denominations usually employed in the market are not accepted. In case of a more than one fiber composition, the percentages should be shown equally highlighted, from the highest to smallest percentage and the sum must equal 100%.
- If the products is comprised of two or more different pieces, each piece should have its composition specified separately, if accounting for a minimum 30% of the entire product. Linings and coverings should have their fiber composition indicated separately.
- Two or more textile products, featuring the same raw material composition and comprising a set to be sold as a whole, may use a single specification.
- Care and Handling Treatment:
You must inform the care and handling instructions according to ISO principles. This information may be indicated by the use of symbols and/or texts as chosen by the manufacturer or importer. Your label must contain the following process: machine washing, dry washing, chlorine bleaching, drying and ironing.

Underwear, panty hoses and others:

Brazilian Consumer Protection Code:
In a view of law 8.078 that created the Brazilian Consumer Protection Code we find it important to give a few explanations that we deem relevant in clarifying some questions concerning the use of informative labels, particularly in regard to laundry and textile composition of the products.
1) TEXTILE COMPOSITION: The "Instituto Nacional de Metrologia, Normatização e Qualidade Industrial - INMETRO" (National Institute of Metrology, Regulation and Industrial Quality), through its resolution 02/82, still in effect, regulated the use of fibers in textile products. We point out some relevant topics concerning labels.

a) The textile products (...) shall indicate the name of the fibers or filaments they are composed of followed by their respective expressed mass percentage (...).

b) The composition specification shall be indelible and fixed (...) to every unit or fraction of the product (...).

c) The composition specification (...) in no case shall be smaller than press characters of "Body 8 - Capital Letters" or under 2 mm in height.

d) Information on the package does not exempt any packed product from featuring a label with the same composition.

e) The textile product composed of two or more fibers, with one of them accounting for at the least 85% of the total mass, may have its composition designated as follows: minimum 85%.

f) In the finished product (...) a 3% tolerance is accepted between the stated percentage and the one existing in the product.

2) WASHING INSTRUCTIONS: The Brazilian Consumer Protection Code does not explain clearly the requirement for label use, as it refers only to washing procedures for manufactured garments. However, the use of s label should prevent future problems, since a product damaged by faulty use has to be replaced (or refunded) by the manufacturer, unless the consumer has failed to follow the instructions provided any clearly described in the piece.
